Hello everyone, how are we doing today? This week in class we discussed a topic that was very intimate. I mean very intimate. We talked about marital intimacy. Can we say awkward! However it was very interesting. Most of what we discussed was that intimacy can bless and strengthen a marriage if both people are sensitive to the needs of the other. However, if intimacy is "used" outside of marriage or incorrectly "used" within marriage it can be so damaging to the relationship. Intimacy is a sacred gift from God to help married couples express their love and to create bodies for their children. It is a Godly power and should be used in the terms that God has outlined for us. He loves us so deeply that he wants to protect us from the dangers of the world and consequences of sin.
My mom found an article that I think ties in very well. It compares the temple marriage sealing to the seal on canned fruit. You seal the fruit to preserve it and to keep it fresh for a longer time much like a temple sealing does for a marriage. In the article S. Michael Wilcox says "Our abiding in the covenant allows the Lord to place the seal on our covenant relationship and preserve the fruits of our righteousness for all eternity. This is the same for all temple covenants. Nobody seals an empty jar; neither does the Lord seal empty covenants. First there must be fruit to preserve.” I think that one of those "fruits" is marital intimacy if used correctly. It can bring couples closer together in ways nothing else can.
